Lose belly fat? You may be thinking, get real! Especially if you have previously wondered how to lose belly fat, fought the battle and lost. With some effort though, it is possible to lose belly fat.
Of all of the places on the human body, the belly is often considered the most difficult to tone properly. There are many factors that add to this, including diet, choice of exercise routine, and willpower, but the fact remains that if you are searching frantically for those six pack abs, you likely have a long road ahead of you.
There are, however, a few important things you want to keep in mind along the way. There is no magic wand, short of lipo, that can magically make your belly fat disappear, but the following four tips can start you in the right direction.
First, start by reading labels. One of the biggest crimes that is currently being perpetrated in supermarkets all across the country is the disguise of food products that advertise themselves as health food that really aren’t. It is up to you to determine if a food product is worthwhile. You don’t have to count calories or fat grams, but you do need to know what you put into your body every day. Learning how to prepare your own healthy meals is also a huge part of getting rid of excess belly fat.
Next, do your research when it comes to abdominal exercises that burn fat. Most of us fall back on the old standbys such as crunches, sit-ups, and other muscle toning exercises, but do you want to build muscle or do you simply want to tone? By building muscle, it can make your stomach stick out even farther. The key to seeing results that aren’t discouraging is to get rid of the layer of fat you have on top of your muscle by doing cardio so that you tone first and build muscle second.
Instead of doing crunches until you can’t breathe, try Pilates or aerobics 3 or 4 times a week. Exercises where you are active for longer periods of time and engaging your entire body in motion are far more effective ways of getting in shape. These exercises do build muscle but they are primarily used to tone and to shape your body. Don’t be afraid to incorporate more muscle building exercises into your routine, but the key, especially when you are first starting out, is being active. You can even jog or run if you prefer, but activities like swimming, Pilates, or aerobics are best.
Finally, it is important that you are careful with the supplements. Taking a good multi-vitamin is an excellent idea, but watch out for the latest fat burning products. Simply put, diet pills do not work unless they are prescribed and used under the supervision of a doctor. You are not only wasting your money but possibly endangering your life by taking them. We all want an easy way to help curb our hunger and our cravings, but looking for the solution in a pill isn’t going to help you at all. If you have cravings, have nutritious snacks around or have smaller portions of the things you crave. Working with this plan for how to lose belly fat, you will start to see a difference soon.
