It has been the dream of every woman who has wanted to drop five pounds before her high school reunion and the dream of every man getting ready to go out on a blind date:  learning how to lose weight fast.

There are a million and one fad diets on the market that claim to be able to help you lose weight fast.  Many are scams and even more of them are dangerous, which leaves nothing but a rapid fire whirlwind of eating right, exercising, and hoping for the best.

Here are a few basic things you can do if you need to get into that dress by the end of the week.

First of all, you need to mentally prepare for what you are about to go through.  Know that you aren’t going to be having any sugar or any saturated fats – and NO CHEATING!  If you are serious about losing weight fast, you have to be able to sustain some level of discipline for at least a week.  If not, then you might as well go see the plastic surgeon and get your fat removed the liposuction way.  If you believe you can stand up to this test, keep reading.

Now that you are ready to tackle rapid weight loss like an adult, you need to change your eating habits.  Reintroduce your body to at least five servings of fruits and veggies per day, and that’s just for starters.  Whole grains, lean meats, and protein with every meal are an absolute must if you are serious about putting your body through the paces.

You have to supply your body with the fuel it needs to burn fat, build muscle, and lose weight.  You will not get that from starving yourself.  In fact, you need to eat a whole extra meal per day of veggies, whole grains, and meat.  This gives your body a fighting chance at surviving the exercise you are about to go through.  No, it isn’t crazy talk.  Eat more healthy food and training fuel to lose weight.  Honest!

Speaking of exercise, the key here is cardio.  It is absolutely vital that you push yourself as far as you can go at least once per day during this weight loss experiment.  You can choose to swim like a fish, peddle like Lance Armstrong, run like the wind, or you can even choose to do those neat elliptical exercises like that guy on the infomercial. What is important is that you work up a sweat and burn fat.  Nothing will do that faster than a good cardio routine.

With the rest of your time, you can choose to build muscle with weight training, do aerobics, spinning, or Pilates. It doesn’t really matter as long as you are active and feeling good.  If you can handle another round of cardio, that would be your best bet.

Try and mix in other forms of cardio, too, so if you jogged earlier, try swimming later.  If you swam before, try biking.
